Training for greatness during the 2021 Rugby Championship
In September 2021, CrossFit Torian had the privilege of hosting one of the most legendary sporting teams on the planet — the New Zealand All Blacks — as they prepared for their Rugby Championship clash in Brisbane.
With COVID-19 restrictions forcing the latter stages of the tournament into Queensland, Brisbane became home base for several international rugby sides. Suncorp Stadium was locked in for key fixtures, including the All Blacks’ Round 4 showdown with Argentina. And when it came time to find a world-class training hub in Brisbane… they chose Torian.
Why Torian?
The All Blacks don’t settle for average. They needed a facility that could match the intensity, precision, and professionalism of their own environment back home. At Torian, they found:
Elite-level equipment and space to run strength, power, and conditioning sessions without compromise.
Privacy and focus, allowing players and coaching staff to fine-tune strategies away from the public eye.
A high-performance atmosphere that mirrors their own relentless standards.
It wasn’t just the quality of the space — it was the alignment of values. Much like the All Blacks’ ethos in James Kerr’s Legacy, Torian is built on discipline, humility and a constant drive to improve.

Legacy in Action
Spending time around the team, you could see the culture that has made them the most successful rugby side in history. The principles from Legacy weren’t just words in a book — they were alive in every session:
Sweep the Sheds – No one is too big to do the small things. Players took responsibility for their own gear, tidied their space, and left the gym as spotless as they found it.
Champions Do Extra – After scheduled sessions, some players stayed behind for mobility work, skills drills, or recovery — a clear commitment to going beyond the minimum.
Keep a Blue Head – Even in intense training moments, the squad showed calm, focus, and clarity under pressure, controlling the controllables.
A Week of Power and Preparation
In the days leading up to the Brisbane test, the All Blacks’ sessions at Torian were nothing short of inspiring. From explosive lifts to precise mobility work, every movement had intent. You could feel the intensity in the air — a reminder that excellence is built on the small, repeated actions most people overlook.
Their professionalism spilled beyond the training floor. Whether it was a quiet nod to a member between sets or a polite word to staff, their respect for the environment and the people in it was unmistakable.
Game Day Result
On 18 September 2021, their preparation paid off. The All Blacks defeated Argentina 36–13 at Suncorp Stadium — a performance built on discipline, speed, and precision. Knowing Torian played even a small part in that win will forever be a proud moment for our team.
More Than Just a Gym
Hosting the All Blacks reinforced what we already know — Torian isn’t just a gym, it’s a hub for high performers. Whether it’s the world’s best rugby players or our everyday athletes, we provide the environment for people to push their limits and live by the same values that keep champions at the top.
Because in sport — and in life — better people make better All Blacks.
